The fundamental role of continuous tectonic activity assisted by intense chemical weathering inthe construction of present day landscape in central –Africa has been emphasis by primary results of the young scientist IGCP 616 project. The focus of the newly proposed IGCP projectis long and short –term evolution of western and central Africa. The proposed new IGCPproject “Long and short-term dynamic interaction in western and Central Africa: implicationsfor natural resources management and sustainable development ” is aimed to maintain the existing team build upon the young scientific project and possibly to mobilize more participants to carry out multi-disciplinary investigations in related areas.

The project is planned as a successor to IGCP 616Y (Tectonics Paleoclimatic and landscape evolution of central Africa). In this way the investigation on crustal architecture and regional geology of west and central Africa whose geology is still poorly known and yet to be mapped and the clarification and quantification of the link between basement studies, neotectonics, climate change and landscape evolution can continue. During our on going IGCP 616Young project many questions have been solved, however, much more new appeared and their solution requires truly integrative activity of a multi-country team with leaders directly from the countries within the region of investigation (Cameroon, Nigeria, Chad, Congo etc..) and those who have obtained a great experience in organizing and performing scientific research in that region during many years (FRG, France). Undoubtedly, such a team will be capable not only to organize scientific meetings, but to accomplish the whole regional and methodological spectrum of field and analytical works and thus will guarantee the successful performance of the new Project. Significant technical, scientific and educational advancement have been made in the integration of basement studies with neotectonics, climate change and landscape evolution since the beginning of the IGCP 616 project (2012) with and international and multi-disciplinary approach. Although this multidisciplinary approach also cause problem to generate interlinked studies and clear scientific results in the short running time (2012-2014).
